Prema and its people

Prema is a family friendly Arts Centre, promoting performance, live music and art exhibitions as well as accessible workshops, classes and creative experiences for kids and adults. Prema, near Dursley in the Stroud valleys, offers an affordable day out for all folk in the South West.

Our busy and terrifically popular arts centre is peopled by a small team of dedicated, imaginative and passionate individuals. We are all makers, artists, crafters and performers as well as knowing a thing or two about putting together a great programme of quality arts events.

Abby Conway - Education Officer

Abby grew up in Bournemouth and went on to study for her degree in Illustration at the University of the West of England. Abby joined Prema in 2009 and has had an interesting career as an illustrator, University lecturer and now juggles her time at Prema with being a maker of products and designs, a spot of teaching as well as being a creative Mum to her young family. Abby seems to be a natural facilitator and takes delight from helping others in unlocking their creative potential, aiding them to explore previously uncharted creative waters. Abby can be contacted on abby@prema.org.uk

Bean Coombs - Finance Officer

Bean grew up in Surrey and studied Business and Finance at Guildford College and has subsequently secured a host of accountancy qualifications. She has held finance posts in a number of firms throughout London before moving to Gloucestershire in 2004 and joining the Prema Gang in 2008. Bean is an absolute whizz with numbers and calculators and makes an art form out of pulling all Prema's sporadic streams of money into one, neat spreadsheet. In addition to her time at Prema, Bean is often spotted tazzing around the area collecting her children from various playgroups, schools and creative activities. Bean can be mailed at finance@prema.org.uk

Andrew Shapland - Media, Communications & Data Management

Andy joined Prema in 2013 after falling in love with the place whilst attending our life drawing course. Andy is first and foremost an artist who seems to have a particular leaning toward winter landscapes although is developing a keen interest across a range of media and applications. He grew up and still lives in Dursley with his family. In between his hours at Prema and his studio Andy  builds websites and can often be found cycling for pleasure and in competitions. He is quite the connoisseur of the much overlooked toasted teacake! Andy can be contacted on andy@prema.org.uk

Gordon Scott - Artistic Director

Gordon grew up in Dursley and then moved to London to study music at Kingston Polytechnic. He joined Prema in 1991 as resident musician and moved onto become Prema's Education Officer in 1993 and then took on the role of Artistic Director in 1996. His length of service at Prema suggests either a crushing lack of ambition or that he loves everything about Prema and the crazy things which go on there! When not at his desk, Gordon spends his time playing piano, watching French films (as well as the occasional piece of Hollywood trash!) and trying not to trip over any of the three cats at home (who seem to have a knack of swerving in front of him at the most inopportune moments). Gordon's email address is gordon@prema.org.uk

Mark Crowe - Technical Officer

Mark grew up on the North Lincolnshire coast and moved to Gloucestershire to join Prema in 1997. He studied photography and video at De Montfort University and maintains his passions for both digital and film-based media. In addition to working at Prema, Mark spends some of his week with Global Organics and in his spare time risks life and limb through his love of mountain biking and snowboarding. Mark is contactable on mark@prema.org.uk
