Prema and its people

Prema is a family friendly Arts Centre, promoting performance, live music and art exhibitions as well as accessible workshops, classes and creative experiences for kids and adults. Prema, near Dursley in the Stroud valleys, offers an affordable day out for all folk in the South West.

Our busy and terrifically popular arts centre is peopled by a small team of dedicated, imaginative and passionate individuals. We are all makers, artists, crafters and performers as well as knowing a thing or two about putting together a great programme of quality arts events.

Details about our team will be updated in the coming days.

Angela Barnett - Finance Officer

Angela grew up in South Somerset. She moved to South Gloucestershire in 1978 then to Uley in 2009. She joined Prema in 2019. She can be found at The Pulse on weekdays, either swimming or at a class. When the weather is good she likes to be outside – walking, gardening and cycling. If the weather is not so good she upcycles furniture and bakes and cooks, often using veg from the allotment or foraged food. She also loves spending time with her granddaughters. Holidays are often spent on her tandem or the back of a motorbike touring Europe and Asia. Most weekends are spent at a jive, swing or rock n roll dance. Angela can be contacted at finance@prema.org.uk

Elisa Peel - Education Officer

Elisa grew up on the outskirts of Gloucester and after studying on the Stroud College foundation course she moved to Cornwall to study Illustration at Falmouth University.  Developing a passion for children’s book illustration Elisa graduated in 2019 and shortly moved back to Gloucestershire, now living just outside of Nympsfield village.  This eventually led Elisa to us here at Prema and to the position of Education Officer.  When not at Prema Elisa continues to pursue her illustration career, working on commissions, greetings cards, and developing her portfolio.  As well as her love for art, in her free time Elisa enjoys exploring the countryside (often accompanied by her dog Puzzle) and singing with her mum in Gloucester Choral Society at the Cathedral. Elisa can be contacted on education@prema.org.uk

Gordon Scott - Artistic Director

Gordon grew up in Dursley and then moved to London to study music at Kingston Polytechnic. He joined Prema in 1991 as resident musician and moved onto become Prema's Education Officer in 1993 and then took on the role of Artistic Director in 1996. His length of service at Prema suggests either a crushing lack of ambition or that he loves everything about Prema and the crazy things which go on there! When not at his desk, Gordon spends his time playing piano, watching French films (as well as the occasional piece of Netflix trash!) and trying not to trip over Gopps (the smiliest feline in the world) who seems to have a knack of swerving in front of him at the most inopportune moments. In recent years Gordon has rekindled his love for swimming and can often be located bobbing around in the pool at The Pulse, Dursley, executing a poor excuse for a rather sedate breast stroke.  His email address is gordon@prema.org.uk

Laura Wright - Marketing Officer

Laura grew up in Dursley and still lives with her partner in the town – it’s so beautiful and green, who would want to live anywhere else, eh? She’s always had quite the passion for animals, most specifically horses. After school Laura studied for a Level 3 Horse Management course at Cirencester College before galloping into a role within the equine industry. She worked with horses for four years before realising that it was more of a hobby for her than a career. She joined Prema as a marketing intern back in March 2022 and dazzled us all so much with her brilliant social media postings and building an ever-growing e-marketing system for our arts centre that we just had to create a brand new role for her – Marketing Officer. In her spare time, Laura can often be found cantering around the Uley lanes on Candy; a splendid blue & white mare. And when she’s not atop a horse or dreaming up a story or posting for Prema’s Insta, you’re likely to find her in dispensing biscuits and good cheer to the residents in a local care home. Laura can be contacted by e-mailing marketing@prema.org.uk

Mark Crowe - Technical Officer

Mark grew up on the North Lincolnshire coast and moved to Gloucestershire to join Prema in 1997. He studied photography and video at De Montfort University and maintains his passions for both digital and film-based media. In addition to working at Prema, Mark spends some of his week with Global Organics and in his spare time risks life and limb through his love of mountain biking and snowboarding. Mark is contactable on mark@prema.org.uk
