Here's a brilliantly inventive two-day workshop with maker and art conservationist Katherine Witchell and incredible resident artist Molly Lemon as they teach you skills in paper making and wood engraving. Learning these two processes will allow you to print from your hand-engraved wood blocks onto exquisite handmade paper.

The first day of this workshop will be spent making paper by hand with the guidance of papermaker Katherine Witchell. Using a handmade mould and deckle, spend the day creating  sheets of paper using recycled fibres and a selection of dried petals and seeds from the garden. This transformative process involves learning the basic principles of paper construction, harnessing traditional techniques and creating beautiful, unique sheets of paper.

During the second day printmaker Molly Lemon will teach you how to create your own intricate wood engraved blocks on small pieces of hardwood. Then it's time to ink-up these blocks and print them on your handmade  paper, (now dry and ready from the week before), using her antique Albion Press. Printing the intricate wood engravings on the handmade paper will create textural, exciting artwork for you to take home and treasure.

All materials are provided but you may wish to bring petals or paper to incorporate into your handmade paper.

We suggest you bring along an apron to protect your clothes and rubber washing up gloves if hands are particularly sensitive. No chemicals will be used but constant submersion in paper pulp may cause irritation.

Previous experience in Lino or other relief printing techniques would be useful but not essential.
