In the very depths of the coldest months, Prema’s upstairs gallery transforms into an opulent winter garden, filled with colour and spectacle from the magnificent and super-sized flower paintings of Gloucestershire artist Trish Claridge.

Having enjoyed many years of painting portraits, the incredible beauty of the bold, yet often delicate forms, found in the artist’s home garden motivated her to paint large floral works using the drama of the play of light and shadows as inspiration.

Originally from the village of Uley, Trish studied fine art at Cheltenham College of Art & Design followed by a postgraduate degree in the theatre design at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. This led to a brilliantly exciting career working on designer-painted furniture, bespoke portraits and interiors within theatre and television to help Trish further develop a portfolio of specialised painterly techniques and finishes.

Her glorious floral paintings bring a sense of warmth and sumptuousness to an otherwise chilly and bleak January, reminding us that, with time and turning of the seasons, the brilliance, colour, perfume and texture of the spring and summer is never far away.
