Joyce Pinch was born in Derby but has lived in Gloucestershire for over fifty years. She studied at Redland College, Bristol and was Head of Art and Design at Katharine Lady Berkeley’s School in Wotton-under-Edge. She then lectured at University of the West of England in Bristol on the PGCE course.

Joyce’s paintings focus on found natural forms from the garden, the hedgerow or the seashore. This has been her life-long subject matter and often follows a theme, as one painting will sometimes lead to another.

Moving on from her former subject matter based on nests, eggs and feathers Joyce is now presenting her recent work based on plants from the lanes and fields surrounding her home in Stinchcombe and her much loved garden.

The leaves, seed pods and flower heads have an architectural and sculptural quality where she concentrates on the movement, flow and three-dimensional aspect of the forms.

“The feeling that I am endeavouring to create is a combination of the fragility and intricacy of the subject and to experiment with composition and change of scale, paying attention to the fall of light and shadow with subtle colours and textures found in each individual object and to take a new and closer look."
