Keeping a sketchbook is an invaluable place to store, expand on and experiment with ideas, techniques and materials. They offer a safe space to make mistakes and let loose with mark making.

In this series of three workshops each session will be led by a different artist, each using different materials, techniques and sharing how they tackle creative problems, work on ideas and use a sketchbook (or not!) in their own day to day practice. This fantastic opportunity working directly with professional artists will inform and guide you as you explore how a sketchbook can be used to record thoughts, dreams and ideas. (Keeping a sketchbook is also fantastic for interviews for college and university to show off who you are as an artist).

Sat 26 Jan 10-12 am  First session with illustrator Imogen Harvey Lewis. Imogen loves drawing and uses her distinctive illustrated characters to explore the themes and emotions of human nature. Explore how a sketchbook can be used to develop a drawing style, precision and graphic storytelling.

Sat 16 Feb 10- 12am    Next session is with painter Ros Wise, her big, gestural oil paintings are inspired by fields, gardens and wildflower meadows. Explore her working process and discover how her ideas develop and colour and tone is used to bring her bold work to life.

Sat 16 Mar   10-12 am   In the third session get ready for a huge contrast with experimental printmaker and tutor Simon Packard. With a passion for sketchbooks, Simon pushes the boundaries of what a sketchbook can be. Explore materials, mark making and how your sketchbook becomes an artwork in itself.  Get big, brave and get messy!
