Originally from London, printmaker Kerry Day initially trained as a ceramicist at Bath Spa University and now lives and works in Bristol. In 2011 she completed an MA in Multi Disciplinary Printmaking at UWE and is now based in her studio at the wonderful Hamilton House in Stokes Croft, Bristol. Kerry’s current body of work is about the plants with which she shares her home and studio. Their architectural shapes and contours seem to translate beautifully to printmaking. The wide range of leaf colour and pattern in these cacti, succulents and leafy plants seems to positively invite layers of texture and tone within the forms. The prints are accomplished using a mixture of reduction lino print and mono print (using the rollers like paint brushes) to produce variable edition prints.
Kerry has taught printmaking since 2009 in a variety of locations from Spike Print Studio, Royal West of England Academy to the Bristol Drawing School. Currently she teaches regular classes in lino printing and block printing onto fabric. Kerry’s splendid and colourful prints showing within Vestry Café bring a welcome reminder of the verdant foliage and the popping colours of summer just as the days become noticeably shorter and the temperature begins to drop.
