Artist Nigel Adams was born and raised in London. From an early age it was apparent that a career within the creative industries was calling and his first foray was a robust training in architecture at the London University. Having spent his entire working life as partner within an architect’s practice in London and Hertfordshire (focusing on designs for corporate clients), Nigel’s broader artistic exploration started in earnest following his retirement and subsequent move to Bath in 2006. Painting seems to be Nigel’s chosen medium through which he feels he is able to truly express himself. He explains “the process of learning to express my inner imaginings effectively was helped by several people, one of the most influential being Terry Brooks who observed that watercolour was, perhaps, not the correct medium for what I seemed to want to do”. Through transferring to acrylics his prolific creative output seemed to suddenly soar and seemed to speak to people in a more impactful and meaningful way. His paintings might be described as 'landscapes of the mind'. The artist does not seek to represent a particular location but instead tries to convey the feelings and impressions that nature and different natural habitats invoke. Using brush and palette knife with acrylic paint, Adams explores ways of suggesting different surfaces, textures and atmospheres.
